The Specialist is expected to be highly knowledgeable of the development issues faced in South Africa and the region. This includes knowledge of official government development priorities. Emphasis will be placed on knowledge of the current state of health, education, economic growth, and democracy issues. An understanding of project/activity implementation and M&E and CLA processes is required.

Skills and Abilities:

The Specialist must be to provide technical advice and recommendations in senior management meetings with the USAID Front Office, the US Embassy in Pretoria, Washington colleagues, implementing partners, and other official donors as appropriate. They must have proven, demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to work calmly, tactfully, and effectively under tight deadlines and heavy workload within agreed upon parameters with minimal supervision or guidance and while exercising sound judgment is required. Strong quantitative, analytical, and budgetary skills are required as well as the ability to conceptualize and present information in the most effective, easy-to-understand manner. S/he must have the proven ability to communicate quickly, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing - in English. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to resolve issues with implementing partners and team members. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment to achieve consensus on budget, program and administrative matters is a must. Excellent computer skills (Google Suite, Databases, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) are required to analyze, monitor, and present information


University degree in social science, economics, international relations/development, public policy/administration, monitoring and evaluation, or related field is required.
