We currently have a position available for an Evaluation & Research Manager - specifically one with monitoring and evaluation training and experience.  The Evaluation & Research Manager will be responsible for overseeing, planning and managing research and monitoring and evaluation projects and will be responsible for the professional execution of all quantitative and/or qualitative research jobs of Impact Consulting.
 
Tasks include:
1. Designing and planning research and monitoring and evaluation projects (including methodology, budgets, timeframes)
2. Manage research/evaluation projects, including timeframes, financial aspects and ensuring the timeous delivery of outputs.
3. Oversee the research team’s research/evaluation projects
4. Manage and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, monitoring and evaluation projects (including literature reviews, document analysis, fieldwork, workshop design and facilitation, analysis and report-writing)
5. Write research/evaluation proposals
6. Manage and liaise with clients, service providers and partners/associates
7. Manage temporary project staff where necessary
8. Grow and manage the resource centre
9. Contribute to the organisational culture
10. Assist with organisational management, growth and sustainability.
11. General administration where required for project purposes

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge
1. A background in quantitative and qualitative research
2. Background knowledge in research design
3. Background knowledge in monitoring and evaluation
4. Background knowledge in desktop research
5. A comprehensive knowledge of computer programmes, particularly Microsoft Office
6. A broad knowledge of time management and time management techniques
7. Ability to translate and interpret the organisation’s strategic plan to allow for the development of own activity objectives
8. Experience of management and performance management techniques
9. Knowledge of global trends within research as a field and the ability to align these to current projects
10. Knowledge of the social development sector in Southern Africa and the current context and issues
11. Knowledge of the non-profit sector would be an advantage
12. Some community development experience would be an advantage

Skills
1. Advanced computer literacy, for example in the Microsoft Office suite, Statistica/SPSS, and other relevant data management systems used currently
2. Ability to interface effectively with people at all levels
3. Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and telephonic
4. Speak at least two of the three main languages spoken in the Western Cape
5. Project Management skills: ability to coordinate activities of various initiatives and ensure their completion in a precise sequence, determining and monitoring the expenditure of time and money
6. Ability to manage for results at least at a junior to middle management level
7. Very good facilitation skills
8. Good interpersonal skills

Qualifications and experience
1. A relevant Masters degree (for example, in Development Studies, Research Psychology, Organisational Psychology etc)
2. Four to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Practical experience in monitoring and evaluation. 

Suitable candidates must have a valid driver’s licence and his/her own transport and must be available to travel, sometimes at short notice.  A good professional network and own set of contacts would be an advantage.
