Principles in Monitoring and Evalution - Performance Monitoring and Evaluation

Monitoring and evaluation, and the sharing of the results have been increasingly emphasised by national and international policy makers and programme managers. This course focuses on building the capacity of professionals by providing training in monitoring and evaluation methods, tools and techniques.
Monitoring and evaluation as a planning tool provides information to:
assist in reviewing the progress of your project;
identify gaps and challenges in the project process;
setting of priorities; and
allocation of resources.
As a management tool, it provides the basis to ensure that programme/project objectives are achieved, keeping track, making corrective actions and reporting on performance.
After completing the course, participants should be able to:
understand monitoring and evaluation concepts, terminologies, definitions and context;
understand the different types of monitoring and evaluation methods and approaches;
develop project objectives, indicators and monitoring and evaluation tools;
plan, design and implement a monitoring and evaluation system;
facilitate team performance improvements using assessment findings;
establish performance standards and monitoring systems;
conduct data analysis and report writing;
use information for decision making and programme improvement;
understand result based management;
use evaluative feedback;
develop project evaluation proposals; and
understand the major components of the government wide M&E initiative.
