Our Exhibitors at the SAMEA Inaugural Conference

We at SAMEA are very pleased to introduce you to some of our exhibitors that were present at our Inaugural Conference in March 2007.

The theme of the conference was "Evaluation in Action" and our exhibitors made their exhibits relevant to the conference theme.   The exhibitions included those that provided information on training and capacity building in the field of M&E; services in M&E; and products that support M&E.

 The staff of e-Soul (Pty) Ltd has over fifteen years experience in management consulting services, business process engineering, system analysis, design and software development at large South African organizations in the services sector.

For the past seven years we have been involved at HOPE AFRICA, an affiliate of HOPE WORLD WIDE, an international NGO focusing on HIV/AIDS and other social project. A business process engineering was performed on the organization to define a set of internal best practises on all their Key Focus Areas and the outcome was used to design and develop a Monitoring and Evaluation solution.

All the business and system challenges for a Monitoring and Evaluation solution were considered and since no products could be found to fit their needs e-Soul developed the EDMES (Electronic Distributed Monitoring and Evaluation) solution.

Functionality and features include:

  • Design of programs and service that correlates with key indicators;
  • Design of questionnaires for ad hoc research and qualitative measurement;
  • Deployment of programs, services and questionnaires for disparate sites;
  • Design and implementation of metrics and budgets for services;
  • Capturing of service delivery;
  • Full audit trail with required elements (Date, time, place and staff);
  • Customization of business processes;
  • Data validation rules;
  • Duplication identification;
  • User right profiles;
  • Consolidation of information from disparate site to a central site.

A research component is available for base line or other qualitative research. This takes the EDMES solution to a next level.

It however seem that the market is not yet ready for

Issues that were identified in the sector include:

  • The lack of understanding of potential benefits of technological solutions;
  • No budgetary funding available for M&E despite major manual work enquired;
  • Non compliance to audit standards by NGOs;
  • Organizations not in line with the government’s M&E policy.

EDMES is also complemented by our training administration solution, e-Student that assists with the administration of capacity building.

We believe that the EDMES solution will contribute positively in the service sector to improve the quality of service delivery, to optimise resources and to track project budget figures.
